PINTADO DESPERADO

This season we had 14 Mares to foal starting September 2009 and the latest Late January 2010. This paragraph has a quick description and two photos of each foal. Following are seperate paragraphs dedicated to each individual foal with more detail including pedigrees.

1. BELLEZA

2. EW PINTADO ALARDEAR

Roxy and her Filly foal 'Alardear' born 01.10.09

Alardear is the Spanish word for Showoff.

This filly is so confident and outgoing. She is friendly to the point of being a pest. You can't enter the paddock without her coming up to see what you are doing. She loves a scratch and is the biggest showoff ever. Her mum, Roxy, is one of the last mares sired by Heroicity before he left NZ. We are lucky enough to own two half sisters by Heroicity, Roxy & Diva, both born in 2004. Alardear has several very strong jumping lines in her breeding. Namely Desperado her sire and on her dams side Heroicity and Superstud lines.

3. SKY'S FILLY

5. EW PINTADO GRANDE

Holly and her colt foal 'Grande' born 9.10.09

Grande is the Spanish word for Big.

 This boy, at the time of his birth, was the biggest foal we have had born from a thoroughbred mare. His dam, Holly, is a 16.1hh thoroughbred mare who was an SPCA rescue from Taranaki. Thanks to Carolyn Wratislav, who contacted me in regard to the rescue last year, Holly joined our broodmares. This colt is awesome with a wonderful friendly and outgoing nature and lovely movement. He is also our first solid coloured foal and Charelle already has her eyes on him as her future competition horse. His dam also jumps very well so with jumping both sides we have high hopes for his future.

6. SOUTHERN LAD

9. EW PINTADO CHICA

Elle and her Filly foal 'Chica' born 05.12.09

Chica is the Spanish word for young woman. This filly is a full sister to Estrella born last season.

Chica is also a showoff and shows the outgoing personality I have now come to expect from Desperado's progeny. Chica & Milagro were born only 3 days apart and are the best of mates. They love to play every evening at the end of the day. Chica's dam is a full thoroughbred sired by Alibhai so this filly also has strong jumping lines. Her full sister (Estrella) is also a wonderfully natured yearling with lovely movement so I am expecting the same from this filly.

10. EW PINTADO MILAGRO

Diva and her filly foal 'Milagro' born 08.12.09

Milagro is the Spanish word for Miracle.

Milagro is Diva's little miracle as a year ago Diva had her leg severely broken by a kick from a shod heavy horse and should have been put down.  After several vets looked at the xrays and discussions were had with an equine surgeon the prognosis was virtually impossible to fix as we had a spiral fracture with an open wound right to the bone but we were determined to try. There were several fractures spiraling out from the site of impact but we had a sliver of bone that was still intact so felt if we could stabilise it and keep infection away it may work like an internal splint. After 3 months of extremely hard work, a willing patient and constant vet attention  her compound fractures started to mend and today she has recovered to full strength. Diva's leg had to be rebandaged every 4th day and the leg was bandaged to the thickness of an elephants leg to work like a plaster. Trucking boots were bandaged in as well to stabilise and restrict movement of the knee. She spent the first 8 weeks in a cross tie a metre long across the corner of her stall to keep her immobilised. This cut short Charelle's plans to start her as a 4 year old showjumper. Her breeding is all that saved her as she is one of the last mares by Heroicity xx and also has excellent jumping genetics from her dam, Broadway Baby xx. We decided it was worth trying to save her as a broodmare and never in our wildest dreams realised we would not only save her but she would be fully sound and able to be fully competitive again. Diva mended sufficiently just in time to serve before the season ended and she has joined our broodmares this season and possibly next season as we feel we may give her another year off to fully consolidate the leg.

12. CHANTILLY DECODA

Cody takes his name from his Dam who sadly lost her life bringing him into this world.

Chantilly Lace (Tilly) was a 20 year old Holsteiner mare sired by J K Sacramento.

 13. EW PINTADO PRIMOROSA

13 is a lucky number for this beautiful filly. Lulu's Filly Born 17.01.10 at 6.45am

The spanish translation for Primorosa is: Neat, elegant, excellent, fine, handsome, curious, graceful.

 This filly is a neat little foal with beautiful markings and a curious personality. Primorosa is a full sister to Pintado Bravo born last season.

14. EW PINTADO POSH

Debz show hunter mare 'Zigazigaar' and her filly foal 'Posh' born at 9.10am on 2.2.2010.

This is Debz long awaited foal from her very successful Show Hunter mare 'Zigazigaar'.

This filly takes her name from the Spice Girls.  Her Dam 'Zigazigaar' was named from the Spice Girl's expression regarding girl power.

We always said if we ever bred Zig and she had a filly foal we would call it Posh. So 1/4 Clyde and all she now has a name to live up to. This filly is very forward and people friendly. She loves to play and spends a large amount of her day trying to entice the other foals to play with her.

'Pintado Alardear' Born 1st October 2009. This eagerly awaited filly arrived in the early hours of the morning on 1st October 2009. Alardear is Spanish for ShowOff as she is very forward and out there living up to her name.

Her Dam is a 5yr old Chestnut mare by Heroicity out of Maybe who is by SM Merlin who was by Superstud. This filly is bred to jump with strong jumping lines on both sides of her pedigree.
